For new Moms, especially those who’ve just delivered their first baby, that first long, hard post-childbirth look at ourselves in the mirror ain’t a pretty one.

There isn’t a woman on the planet who looks amazing immediately after giving birth so the most important thing to remember is not to worry about it. Seriously, getting stressed can cause your body to produce more cortizone which means you’ll be storing more fat so take some deep breaths, okay?

However health conscious you were before baby came along, new Moms tend to have more on their plate (pun intended) than they can handle so cooking nutritious, low calorie meals may not be all that high on your agenda.

Not to worry, these supplements have been proven to help you to get yourself on the way to reclaiming your post-baby body safely and naturally!

Garcinia cambogia extract
This small, green, pumpkin shaped fruit contains hydroxycitric acid (HCA) in its skin. This is the active ingredient in garcinia cambogia extract which is the key ingredient in the weight loss pills that Melissa McCarthy credits with her recent weight loss achievements.

How does it work?

It works by inhibiting fat-producing enzymes in the body and increasing your serotonin levels which can help to reduce and manage food cravings. There are no known side effects although in some rare cases it can lead to minor digestive issues.

Hydroxycut
Hydroxycut is currently one of the world’s most popular weight loss supplements and has been around for over a decade. Its active ingredients are a combination of caffeine, wild mint, wild olive and other herbal extracts.

How does it work?
It works by giving your metabolism a boost, enabling your body to burn stored fat more effectively. The caffeine is the most potent stimulant in the supplement and in many is able to give a metabolic boost of 3-11% and increase fat burning to between 10-29%.

One caveat is that our bodies tend to develop an immunity to caffeine so Hydroxycut may not be an effective long-term solution.

Orlistat
Orlistat (marketed as Alli) is an over-the-counter pharmaceutical drug. It is sometimes prescribed by doctors as Xenical. It has been proven to promote weight loss while also reducing blood pressure but it has been known to have some digestive side effects including loose, oily stools and flatulence.

How does it work?
It works by inhibiting the breakdown of fat in the gut, meaning that fewer calories are absorbed by fat. For this reason, it is recommended to reduce fat intake while taking Orlistat to minimize the risk of unpleasant side-effects.

Metatrim
A relative newcomer, Metatrim is a plant based alternative to the more pharmaceutical Orlistat. It is a combination of plant extracts that change the way the body metabolises fat.

How does it work?
It works by making it harder for the body’s fat cells to multiply, decreasing the amount of fat that is taken into the bloodstream and aiding the body’s burning of stored fat. Unlike Orlistat it has no known side effects.
