Everybody knows an old little lady who was once beautiful in black and white pictures but who now looks nothing like the beauty queen of her past. And nobody wants to turn like her! Consequently, anti-wrinkle creams and invasive treatments have become the weapon of choice when it comes to slowing down the signs of age. But, as you can’t stop time from passing, wouldn’t it be easier to make the most of the ageing process instead of trying to stop it? Healthy and happy seniors are not those who behave like they did when they were in their 20s. Healthy seniors are people who have been preparing their mind and their body to this natural process. So whether you’re worried about how you’d be when you’re old, or whether you want to help an elderly relative, it’s good to understand how to take the best care of your senior body and mind.


Do you give your body what it needs?
You probably know by heart about the 5 fruits and vegetables a day. But they are not enough to keep your body healthy through time. Indeed, you need to ensure that you fuel your body with the vitamins and minerals it needs to perform its natural functions. Vitamin C, for instance, can be found in citrus fruits and pepper bells and is an active antioxidant for your skin. It can also boost your immune system. So, it’s never too late to improve your diet!

Looking older, yes, but fabulous
As growing older is unavoidable, it doesn’t mean that your natural beauty is lost. It’s the ability to change your style to match your age that makes all the difference, such as looking at options for short hair for over 60 or choosing the best makeup routine for your face. Additionally, as the hair can become brittle in old age, short hair is always a smart option to strengthen it. Finally, it doesn’t matter how much you’d love to be younger. You can dress your age and still look amazing. A lot of women try to dress younger than they are, which might cause them to appear old and improper. Dressing your age might indeed make you look more fashionable than ever if you pick something that matches your personality!

What’s stopping you from staying active?
Yes, you’re older, and your body may not be as strong and agile as it once was. Does that mean that you can’t stay active? No, it doesn’t! Staying active is what maintains strength and keeps your body and mind healthy. Nothing is stopping you from joining a fitness center is you feel like it, as long as you don’t try to overdo it. Besides simple activities such as walking can keep your heart and legs fit, and maintain your heart healthy. Contrary to the common belief, you can and should help your old relative to train to new skills, even if they’re using a computer only for pleasure. Basic IT skills are essential to perform most of your everyday activities, from filling up your tax return to planning a grocery delivery. Helping seniors to acquire these skills can help them to stay connected with their relatives, and to engage fully in their community.


The bottom line is that everybody gets old, but only those who work hard can age with grace, health, and style. Isn’t the process of ageing with the best of conditions worth a change of lifestyle?
