5 Ways to Become Healthier in 2018

To many people, living a healthy lifestyle seems like an impossible chore. However, there are many ways to incorporate health into your everyday lifestyle. At the core, it's all about taking gradual steps and remaining consistent with those different habits. Before long, you'll get to a point where you can't imagine living any other way. To get started, try these five ways to become healthier in 2018.

1. Reduce sugar intake.
Sugar is definitely not good for the body. It increases the blood sugar levels in the body. As a result, this can lead to an increase in triglycerides. This is a recipe for heart disease. Instead of opting for the chocolate chip cookie, try a mango or clementine instead. Mangos and clementines contain sugar, but it's not nearly as bad as a chocolate chip cookie and it's natural sugar.

2. Increase supplements.
Many health charts will show you how much Vitamin C, magnesium and potassium you need every day. It can be difficult to keep track of all the vitamins and nutrients you need on a daily basis. A good multi-vitamin helps to cover all of the nutrients in one sitting. If you have a deficiency of a specific vitamin, it's a good idea to take more of that specific vitamin. With a doctor's permission, shop for vitamins online and get the nutrients your body needs in order to thrive.

3. Eat more vegetables.
Vegetables are so essential to the proper functioning of the body. They contain so much healthy fiber, vitamins and minerals. They're also delicious raw, cooked or steamed. Make sure to incorporate a sizeable amount of vegetables at each meal. Whether you choose to sautee some kale, roast a few carrots or cut up cucumber slices, do your best to have a ton of vegetables every day. They'll help your body run at its optimal level.

4. Drink more water.
The human body requires a significant amount of water to thrive every day. Surprisingly, many people don't get enough water. It's so common that most people eat thinking that they're hungry. In reality, they're truly thirsty. To get into the habit of drinking more water, start by drinking a bottle of water as you wake up. The average bottle of water is about two cups (16 ounces). Instead of gulping down a bunch of water at once, carry a bottle around and sip. If you're not crazy about the taste of water, add mint leaves, lemon slices and cucumbers. This will infuse flavor and it'll also help cleanse the body. When you drink enough water on a consistent basis, your process of elimination is better. Your organs will work better and your skin will naturally glow.

5. Move.
A few years ago, First Lady Michelle Obama started a "Let's Move" initiative to help children get more exercise. Exercise is so important for heart health and weight management. Unfortunately, many people lead sedentary lives and don't move often enough. Start by taking a walk on a daily basis. This act will help you get the blood circulating through your body. Graduate from walking to running. Find workouts that you enjoy and indulge a few times a week. That'll help you feel and look better.

There's no time like the present. In that case, get started with these habits today. Gradually integrate them into your lifestyle. Don't try to run a marathon on the first day. Start with a walk around the neighborhood a few times a week. Drink a green smoothie in place of a meal. Give yourself an opportunity to adjust and your body will thank you.
