Beef Bone Marrow Soup Recipe (Filipino Bulalo)

Beef Bone Marrow Soup or best known as Bulalo

Yay Rainy weather!! Me and my hubby was thinking of one best to eat when its cold and raining. He came up of an idea to cook Bulalo.

This is one of the well known beef soup in the Philippines. This is best to eat most especially when served hot on a bed weather. Bulalo is one of the most favorited foods by Filipinos despite of it's high cholesterol content.

It is just simply a marrow in the bone of the beef shank and vegetables. it is very easy to prepare, my hubby just requested for this. But if you have a high cholesterol, I will not recommend this dish.

Ingredients

1 piece of bulalo (bone-in beef shank), about 1 kg. in weight
1 whole onion
1 whole garlic
1 bay leaf
6-8 peppercorns
patis (fish sauce)
1/2 head of white cabbage (core and cut in half)
250 g. of potatoes (peeled and cut into chunks)
 Baguio pechay

Instructions

In a large casserole, place the meat and add water. Add garlic, onion, bay leaf and peppercorns.  Set over medium heat and bring to a boil and simmer for at least about 2 hours or until meat is tender. Remove the scum as it rises. Add more water if necessary. Pressure cooker takes less time.

Season with fish sauce and sprinkle some salt

Using a slotted spoon, carefully remove the beef shanks and transfer to a tureen or serving bowl. Strain the broth. Reheat to boiling point.

Peel the carrot and potatoes and cut into chunks. Core the cabbage and cut in half. Trim the ends of the pechay. Add the potatoes and cabbage leaves and simmer for another 8-10 minutes. Lastly, add the pechay leaves and simmer for another 3 minutes.

Scoop the vegetables out and arrange around the bulalo. Pour in hot broth and serve at once.

Enjoy!

Not more than an hour has passed and can't find any trace, not even a single drop on the kitchen, haha. Obviously, it is not family's favorite. :)
