3 Tips To Help You Feel Body Confident On The Beach!

I’m sure most of you are enjoying the summer sun and looking forward to a few weeks with your kids at home every day - well, maybe you’re not enjoying the second thing as much as the first! I love summer because it’s normally the time for cute holidays with the family, and plenty of lazy outings at the beach. However, I know many moms are really anxious when summer comes around because it signals the start of bikini season. You’ll be going to beaches with your family, and you just don’t feel confident enough to wear a nice swimsuit and enjoy the fun.
This ultimately results in you not enjoying your time at the beach, staring at all teh other women in bikinis, and feeling even less body confident. Well, it’s time to put a stop to this negative attitude right away. I always think that, if you have an issue with something, then you should try and solve it. So, here are a few tips to help you feel body confident on the beach this summer:

Start exercising and eating well
Probably the main reason we feel body conscious is that we think we’re out of shape or maybe don’t look good enough to wear a bikini. Firstly, I want to be clear that there is no ideal body shape. This whole concept of a ‘bikini body’ can be damaging as women believe we should look a certain way or else not wear a bikini. So, if your confidence issues stem from you caring about what others think and assuming you don’t fit a particular body image, then you should forget about what everyone else might think and focus on yourself! Look at yourself in the mirror and ask yourself if everyone else were blind would you still lack confidence on the beach?

If your answer is yes, then that’s kind of a good thing as it means you care about what you think more than anyone else. Let’s face it, some of us are unhappy with the way we look because we’re not as fit or lean as we used to be. Or maybe we really want to add some tone to our body or lose some weight because we’re not happy with ourselves.

When this is the case, you can sort out your problems by exercising and eating well. That’s all you need to do; no fancy diets, no fancy workout programs, just get in regular exercise every day and eat good food. Try tracking your calories, so you burn more than you consume, and this helps you lose weight. If you’re the opposite and you feel really skinny and would feel more confident with added weight, then eat more calories than you burn - but still only eat healthy foods! If you want to just maintain your weight and maybe add more tone to your body, then keep your calories equal and try resistance training.

Follow a full-body skincare routine
Being out of shape isn’t the only thing that causes body confidence issues on the beach. A lot of women are self-conscious about the way their skin looks as well. Particularly if you’re a mom and you have stretch marks and wrinkles in some places. A few of the main problem areas are around the neck/chest area, your arms, and sort of the butt area and upper thigh. To make yourself feel better, you should follow a full-body skincare routine to sort out any little problems you may have.

We’ll start off with your neck/chest, which is usually prone to wrinkles. As such, you don’t want to wear a bikini or swimsuit as these parts of your body will be on display and you feel like everyone is judging your wrinkles. Now, I read an article on 11 ways to treat & prevent cleavage wrinkles, and one of the big ideas was to use aloe vera gel. This helps repair your skin and really bring a new sense of life into it, making the wrinkles gradually go away. This is also great to use on cellulite around your bum and thighs! Another thing that helps your neck and cleavage area are sort of pads you can put on them that lift the skin and make it tighter and less wrinkled.

Arms can also have wrinkles on them or just lots of loose skin, but they can also be bad for dry skin. So, good moisturizing lotion is an absolute must - put it on every morning and night! Funnily enough, one of the best things you can do to really tighten up the skin on your arms and legs/bum is to exercise and use weights. Building muscle tone won’t make you look like a pumped-up jock! Don’t listen to anyone that says women shouldn’t lift weights, it’ll help tone up areas of your body and get rid of wrinkles and cellulite.

Wear whatever makes you feel great
Another thing I want to talk about is the actual clothing you wear at the beach. This is what causes so many confidence issues as you feel like you have to wear tiny bikini’s because that’s considered ‘normal’ beachwear. It’s kind of like when you work in an office and feel like you have to wear skirts all the time because it’s the traditional officewear for women. If you turn up in trousers, you feel self-conscious because it’s not seen as normal. The same as if you turned up to the beach in anything other than a bikini; you think it’s weird so you don’t do it and wear a bikini that makes you feel uncomfortable.

What I want you to try is this; wear whatever makes you feel great. If you’ve worked really hard for months to get what you deem to be your dream body, and you want to show it off, then go for it! Find the tiniest bikini out there and feel confident and sexy. Or, if you like the way a swimsuit feels and you feel most comfortable in one of those, then wear that instead! You could even wear shorts and a t-shirt if that’s what makes you feel great.

My point is, don’t get caught up on the idea that you HAVE to wear a specific type of clothing at the beach. Being in this mindset is ultimately what causes body confidence problems in many women as you feel forced to wear something that you’re not at ease with. Some women feel better in different swimwear than others, and there’s nothing wrong with that at all.

I’m going to wrap this up now by just going over a few points that I feel are really worth paying attention to. Firstly, don’t let other people’s perception of things get you down. If your problems stem from being scared of what others think of you at the beach, then you need to address that. It’s more of a mental thing, which means you have to try and stop worrying about what others think about you if you’re comfortable in your own skin! But, if you don’t like the way you look and it’s something that bothers you and only you, then you can use the advice I’ve put forward in the three tips above. If you want to change something, then changes will only happen if you make them yourself. Hopefully, there’s enough advice here to help you become more body confident and actually enjoy the beach this summer. Now, you can have a big smile on your face and play with your kids in the sand rather than spending your time hiding under a beach umbrella.
