Keeping Up Appearances of Your Home

There are many reasons why you want to keep the exterior of your home looking its best. Curb appeal adds value to your home. It's also a nice feeling to pull in the driveway at the end of the day and be pleased with what you see. You also want your house to look inviting to your friends and family. Unfortunately, it is easy as a parent to let things around the house slide, but by spending a little time and effort, you will be greatly rewarded.

You can begin sprucing up your home’s exterior by removing any clutter. Toys, garden tools, lawn chairs, and other frequently used items have a way of being left scattered about the yard. Take a few minutes to put everything away in a shed, garage, or outside storage containers.

Don’t neglect the landscape. This can make a house look unsightly quicker than anything. Designate a certain day of the week for lawn care. Mow the grass and trim around trees, sidewalks, and flower beds. If you are low on time, try planting perennials that will come up every year rather than the annuals that are only around for one season.

You may not realize it until it’s become an overwhelming chore, but the house itself needs regular cleaning and maintenance. Clean your gutters each spring, and pressure wash the windows and siding for a fresh clean look. If your trim has peeling paint, scrape the wood and repaint the surface. Check the roof after each winter to make sure there are no loose shingles that could cause leaks.

Make sure your house is pest-free. You have to regularly check your cabinets, ceilings, mattress, and doors for termites, bugs and woodworms. If pests get in your house, this issue has to be treated seriously. There are professionals who can help you maintain a pest-free home, you can call pest control to help you.

Once the repairs and annual maintenance is finished, you can add some personality to the house. Hang a wreath on the door or a hanging basket of flowers on the porch. Use solar lights to line walks and drives, and place one or two lawn ornaments around to reflect your interests and taste.

Now that you have finished these small tasks, you have a home you can be proud of. The value will increase, and your friends and family will feel welcome. Best of all, you will have a house you can enjoy coming home to at the end of the day.
